The calendar page has turned yet again, and we welcome one of my favourite months. OCTOBER!! I’m not a real fan of Halloween. It’s the Autumn season, and Thanksgiving that really get me excited. I love everything that this season brings. The gathering of the harvest (which we did recently in our vegetable garden) ~ A big mug of hot apple cider ~ The beautiful colours of the countryside ~ The faint smell of wood smoke in the air ~ Baskets of apples ~ Pumpkins, corn stalks and potted mums ~ What’s not to love about Autumn? Let’s not forget the most important thing – thankfulness.
” God asks us to give thanks in all things because he knows
the feeling of joy begins in the action of Thanksgiving!”
– Ann Voskamp
As promised in my last post, I am sharing my Thanksgiving Tablescape – “A Vintage Thanksgiving”.
Recently, I happily came upon 2 chenille bedspreads at Value Village. I have plans for this mustard colored one, but decided to squeeze a tablescape out of it first. Another shopping trip at the same thrift store yielded me the sweet little vintage suitcase you see in the centrepiece. A perfect colour for fall. I paid a whopping $3 for it! You just never know what you are going to run across.
The plate stack in this tablescape is identical to the one I used in 2011 HERE. It’s a great example of how you can use the exact same dishes yet have two entirely different looking tables.
A little rusty bed spring is a great way to elevate things that are not too heavy.
The silver forks, and Bakelite knives are thrifted as well.
I love the way these teacups add to the vintage look. (J & C Meakin, England) They are not real old…but definitely “vintage”. 😉
We at Take Six would like to wish all our Canadian readers a very Happy Thanksgiving as you gather to celebrate with those special people in your life! Blessings to you all!
