Spring has sprung! Well…that may be a bit of a stretch here in Canada but I still can’t help but think of the spring and summer days ahead. One of my favorite things about warmer weather is dressing for it. In particular, wearing dresses. Ladies…can I just say that I find putting on a dress is the easiest way for me to get ready on a busy morning. Or any morning really… A dress, a couple of accessories and a pair of shoes. That’s it…you’re done!
You may be thinking that dresses are not suitable for your busy lifestyle and I understand. Life can get messy but I have learned that I can do lots of great things in a dress. My daughter’s and I have worn them on many a carnival ride at both Disney World and Canada’s Wonderland, without any wardrobe malfunctions. We were cool, comfortable and cute the entire day.
If you are skeptical or have not had good experiences with wearing dresses, perhaps you are wearing the wrong one. Fabric and style are key to the comfort of wearing a dress for everyday life. They can actually be as comfortable as your “yoga” pants.
Using my Polyvore account, I put together a few comfortable outfits that I would love to wear and may inspire you as well.
It is a complete myth that stripes will make you look wider. Belt it with a bright belt at the smallest part of your waist to make it look even more slimming. Floral flats are both a comfortable and fun touch.
If you want to be well covered, then a maxi dress is just for you. I like to travel in an outfit like this because I can add or remove layers as I need. There are also some great knit blazers available that are structured enough to give you waist definition but are as comfy as a sweatshirt.
I chose this dress because it has so many great things going for it. A V-neck draws attention up to your face, the faux wrap minimizes the waist but won’t cause any wardrobe malfunctions and it cinches in at the waist giving you nice definition there. Paired with easy flats and a cross-body bag, and you are ready for anything the day can bring on.
This dress may be a bit dressier but wedding season is here. I love a floaty polka dot and the ruching at the side again draws attention to your waist. A nude pump is a great addition to your wardrobe for those times when you don’t know what shoe to wear with a multi-colored dress.
Fit and flare dresses are universally flattering for all. And why not in a trendy floral pattern! The waistband on this dress cinches in at the waist and the fuller skirt floats nicely over the hips. This style is probably my favorite to wear. Pair it with your denim jacket to give it a more casual vibe and sturdy but cute wedge sandals finish the look.
So…how chic is this dress? I think this would be the perfect office appropriate outfit. The black vertical line lengthens the body and it’s asymmetry is very on trend right now. Pair it with a colorful clutch of your choice.
Now we just have to pray for some beautiful sunshine to warm things up!
