The First Cookbook Leaves the Nest

Old Man Winter is rearing his head this year in Nova Scotia.  Compared to our very mild winter last year, we are having an old fashion cold blustery winter this year.  Over night tonight we are expecting our second blizzard in three weeks.  Some of us are happier about this, than others…  😉

About 10 years ago, I began putting together a cookbook for each of our children.  When I took note of a recipe that seemed popular, or one they requested,  I made copies of it and put it in the books.  I included a picture with any I could, because I love cookbooks with pictures.  I knew these cookbooks would be special to them when the time came that they left to establish their own homes.  But I had many, many, years yet to work on these books…loads and loads of time.

You will never believe this…   Because I certainly don’t…   The first cookbook leaves the nest THIS WEEK!

How.  Did.  That.  Happen.

I bought 3 5×7 binders

and some 5×7 page sleeves.

I print all the recipes off

and slip them into the sleeves.

If they are blessed with children

they will be able to use the same play dough recipe

that I always made them, and show their children

a picture of their own play dough toys!

Here is the first cookbook

packed in a basket ready to be used

in it’s new home.

Of course it leaves with much love

and my willingness to help

create any  recipes…anytime!

Catherine - They look super Tanya!! How nice for the kids!!! I have been working on recipe boxes for my three girls for years, trying to add copied recipe’s of our family favorites that are in their grandmothers and my own hand writing for keepsakes. They are all married and on their own…think I need to hurry and get them finished up!!!! The plan was for a special Christmas surprise…well maybe for 2014 we’ll see! :)

Sheila Zeller - Wow, Tanya – this is AWESOME! I have had the ‘idea’ for a long time, but it has never materialized into the real thing! My baby turns 19 tomorrow, but she’s still living at home for the next little while. Maybe it’s not too late after all – you have inspired me!!
