My dear friends..can you believe it is Christmas Eve? I hope you are all ready! I’m popping on today to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and to show you my christmas mantel.
My Christmas mantel began to take shape in my mind while I was on a “girls shopping trip” to the US this past August. Some of our favourite shopping is not in malls or discount stores. But in wonderful antique shops. At one spot I noticed several old glass insulators lining a shelf. Upon closer examination, I realized there was a string of mini lights under some of those insulators. I almost got giddy!! What a wonderful idea! I knew I had a few insulators at home, but not many. One of the dear friends that was with me emailed me upon our return to let me know she had a BOX FULL of them, and would I like to have them? No one ever has to ask me twice if I would like to have something old. The answer is always yes!
First off, I used a narrow roll of shrub wrap as a runner and then placed my old window frame and wreath in the middle. Notice there is a silver platter in the middle of the wreath. It adds another splash of sparkle to go along with the platters on either side of the fireplace. I have been collecting some silver platters from thrift stores for a couple years. They are usually $4-$6.
The next step was to string out the mini lights and poke a light or two up inside the bottom of the insulators. I love the beautiful aqua coloured ones.
The last step was to add some mercury glass…more sparkle! LOVE it!! So I stood my Christmas trees and pillar candle holders on the right and added some votive holders into my chippy bird cage on the left. Then I scattered some mercury glass ornaments across the mantel.
Here’s a little close up after dark.
We at TakeSix, would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and God’s richest blessings to you and yours in 2014!!
